A particularly interesting smell in those leaves, Ollie?
***All photos can be enlarged, by clicking on them***
A bright and breezy day made me decide to take Ollie out in the car. I headed for Neatherd Moor, a substantial area of nature on the outskirts of Dereham, our local market town. With Beetley still showing just drab greens and browns, it was nice to get a variety of colour for a change.
This tree was shining gold in the afternoon sun.
Ollie was preoccupied with trying to find a rabbit he had spotted, so I was able to get a shot of him.
More bright colours, just around the corner.
And a tree that has lost its top leaves, but is hanging onto the lower ones.
Ollie could hear barking coming from the path behind, and was waiting for the dogs to appear.
Then we finished our long walk in the shady woodland that fringes the Moor.
It seemed like those leaves had a great smell too!
Looks like a lovely place to go for a roam. Little O and I volunteered at our local nature reserve at the weekend and had a great time being outdoors in the woods. It’s good for the soul.

I am out in such places every day, in all weathers. Although I don’t have a choice, because of Ollie, I do enjoy the fresh air, and the peace and quiet. I also help out locally, with litter collecting. Nothing too ‘official’, I just join some others who clear the crisp packets and plastic bottles left lying around.
Thanks, Abbi.
Best wishes, Pete.

How much bacon you had to give Ollie for the foto shooting? 😉 Nice landscape, think Ollie enjoy it too. Michael

I caught him by using a longer lens, Michael. No bacon required. 🙂
He did enjoy his change of scene a lot.

I always want to reach out and pat Ollie in your pics of him Pete.☺️ I’m glad you were able to enjoy some Autumn colors even if you had to go out of Beetley to do so. I especially love that golden tree in the third picture. I’ll bet you could come up with a story around that.😁

It reminded me of The Golden Fleece, from Greek mythology. But that story has been told. 🙂
Glad you liked the photos, Kim.

Gorgeous, Pete…Ollie and the countryside. I love how my dogs love to run in the fallen leaves. They get so excited. I think the crunching sound ignites them.

Thanks, Pam. He is happy enough to run around and sniff anything. Leaves seem to add to the overall olfactory experience for him. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Great shots of the colors of fall, and Ollie looks great as well!

Thanks, John. Sadly, we don’t have the classic ‘New England’ colours in this area, as we have too many Oak trees. But the light was good that day, and Ollie was certainly on form too.
Best wishes, Pete.

I was just reading an article about how advanced dog’s sense of smell is. I guess they are experimenting with letting them smell blood samples to recognize cancer.
LikeLiked by 1 person
They can certainly detect certain illnesses. I think that on average, they have around a X 40 better sense of smell than humans. Specialist breeds like Bloodhounds, even greater, In Ollie’s case, he is something of a sniffing ‘maniac’, hardly able to take two steps without stopping to sniff. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Hadn’t thought that different breeds had different abilities. Maybe you could hire Ollie out!

Thanks, Susanne. I think he was more smelling what had been deposited on those leaves, than the leaves themselves. 🙂

It was a case of having the longer zoom camera, and Ollie being diverted by new smells and rabbits.
I got lucky yesterday. 🙂

He loves it up there, Jude. So many other dogs. I go there around once a month, to give him a complete change of scene. But with my car out of action for all of the summer, he hasn’t been there for ages.
Best wishes, Pete. x

Is he good with other dogs then?
LikeLiked by 1 person
He loves other dogs. There are just a few we have to avoid, as like Ollie, they are not neutered, so are prone to dominant behaviour, like low growling, and standing on other dog’s shoulders. Ollie does this with four particular dogs in Beetley, and they try to do the same with him. But in 99% of cases, Ollie is delighted to see any other dog, though less interested in their owners.

Are you intending to breed from him?

Not at all. It was just that he had so many operations as a pup, we saw no need to put him though another one. 🙂

Fair enough. Could be a nice little earner though 🙂

He has no pedigree papers, as he is a 1/8th cross. (With a chocolate Lab.) I couldn’t stand the hassle of pups anyway, as Julie would want to keep them all. Then it would be ‘my job’.
Best wishes, Pete. x

You just hire him out to someone who has a bitch they want to breed from – like a stud horse! No puppies in your house 😀
